We’re on a mission to find the most authentic New York–style pizza right here in Cape Coral, Florida. And if you know me, you know this mission is serious business. With that in mind, there was one spot I knew had to be on the list — Sicily Trattoria on Cape Coral Parkway.
It’s been about ten years since I first tried their pizza (I know… how did I let that much time pass?!). I loved it back then, and I’m happy to report — nothing has changed. It’s still everything you’d want from a true New York pizzeria experience.
🍚 Starting Strong: The Rice Ball
Before we even got to the pizza, we were treated to one of their famous rice balls — golden, crispy, and filled with meat, peas, and all those cozy Italian spices. As soon as I sliced it open, a puff of steam escaped, and it smelled heavenly.
The outside was perfectly crunchy without being greasy, and the inside was creamy and flavorful. I almost asked for a side of marinara but stopped myself — because word on the street is Nonna is in the back, and you don’t question Nonna’s cooking.
Fun fact: Nonna spends four to five hours a day making sure her family recipes come out exactly right.
That dedication runs deep here—it’s a true family affair. Siblings, cousins, and extended family members all have their shifts, and their teamwork shows. Clearly, they’re doing something right; Sicily Trattoria celebrates its 20th anniversary on October 30th, with a well-deserved ribbon cutting and celebration to follow.
🧄 The Garlic Knots That Stole the Show
Next came the garlic knots, and let me tell you — these are not your average knots. They were warm, dense, buttery, and absolutely drenched in garlic goodness. Honestly, I could’ve made a meal out of them alone.
But I had to remind myself… we were here on a pizza mission.
🍕 The Main Event: The Pizza
I went with a classic cheese slice, while Edgard ordered cheese and pepperoni, both cooked well-done. My slice was exactly what I hoped for — a massive, foldable slice with a little “flop” (because I didn’t order it crispy). That’s the New York way!
The crust was thin but strong, floury and crunchy at the edge, and held up beautifully under the toppings. The sauce was light and fresh, the cheese melted perfectly, and there wasn’t a single puddle of grease in sight.
No napkin-blotting required — and that’s when you know you’ve got a high-quality pie.
Another cool detail: Sicily uses a special water filtration system for their dough, so you don’t get that weird, mineral-heavy aftertaste some local water can leave behind. Every bite was clean and balanced — exactly what you’d expect from a real-deal New York slice.
🍝 What’s Next?
Next time, we’re going back for their homemade pastas — especially my personal favorite, lasagna. If their pasta dishes are anything like their pizza, we’re in for a treat.
If you’re craving a true taste of New York right here in Southwest Florida, Sicily Trattoria is the spot. Between the family recipes, the perfectly balanced slices, and that unmistakable Italian warmth, it’s no wonder they’ve been going strong for two decades.
Here’s to another 20 years of crispy crusts, gooey cheese, and Nonna-approved perfection. 🍕💛
